Last week marked the Wisconsin Bankers Association's seventh annual Power of Community Week, coinciding with April's designation as National Community Banking Month. Throughout this special week, BWD celebrated the cherished tradition of local hometown community banking and the invaluable relationships we share with you—our valued customers, neighbors, and friends. It fills us with pride to serve our communities and brings us great joy to stand alongside these remarkable organizations!

Yesterday was National Teach Children to Save Day! Over the past month, BWD staff visited classrooms in our local schools to talk about the importance of saving money by reading Jasmine Paul’s “A Boy, a Budget, and a Dream” with the students. We were also able to participate in some money smart activities at our local children’s museum. Thank you to Spring Hill Elementary, Lake Delton Elementary, and the Baraboo Children's Museum for letting us visit!

Last call to submit your photos to WBA’s 2025 Scenes of Wisconsin Calendar Photo Contest! Your work could earn a prominent place on a month page. Deadline for submission is May 1, 2024. For more information and to submit your photos, visit wisbank.com/scenesofwi. Best of luck to all participants!

Our Customer Appreciation Celebration Days are approaching and here are the details! Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton branches will be celebrating June 10-14, and Community Bank of Portage will be held June 17-21. Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar and we look forward to seeing you there!

Smishing (a portmanteau word combining SMS and phishing) are attacks that occur when cyber attackers use SMS, texting, or similar messaging technologies to trick you into taking an action you should not take. Perhaps they fool you into providing your credit card details, get you to call a phone number to get your banking information, or convince you to fill out an online survey to harvest your personal information. Just like in email phishing attacks, cyber criminals often play on your emotions to get you to act by creating a sense of urgency or curiosity, for example. However, what makes messaging attacks so dangerous is there is far less information and fewer clues in a text than there is in an email, making it much harder for you to detect that something is wrong.
